Is a comfortable stage, the pilgrim parts from an altitude near the 1,000 meters, and descend to the 850 that it has Burgos, but in the middle of the way it is necessary to ascend a hill that rises until l.430 meters. It will be worth the trouble, because the view that is appraised of Burgos from this elevation is fantastic.
The exit of San Juan de Ortega is by the highway that goes to Santovenia, but immediately a great wood cross indicates the mud road that the pilgrim must follow. One old trench of railroad is crossed, and another great cross leads until the small population of Agés.
Crossed the town by the highway of local or regional importance and almost in straight line, the population of Atapuerca is reached.
After taking a track to the left, at the exit of Atapuerca, the pilgrim goes up smoothly by a low mount, reaching the peak that is the highest level of the stage. To the left there is an extensive fence that limits a great zone reserved for military practices.
With Burgos to the bottom, a somewhat stony reduction begins, that extends late but by a footpath between fields, to arrive at Cardeñuela de Río Pico, town with almost one single street. Following the same route the pilgrim crosses Orbaneja, town of the same characteristics that the previous one, and without leaving it and about 3 km: Villafria.
Straight line and by the highway N-I, crossing the hell of traffic of an industrial estate, one enters in Burgos by the old town of Gamonal, today transformed into a great large city.
