The exit of Castrojeriz takes directly to the hill of Mostelares, the last plateau before initiating the flat and uniform Tierra de Campos (Land of Fields), the ascent is short but enough hard. However, it compensates, since from the top of the hill it is enjoyed one of the best views of the old Castle with its hills and cereal fields.
About 10 kilometers of Castrojeriz, after surpassed the referred plateau and a reduction in which it is located the source Piojo, it is arrived at the hermitage of San Nicholas, hospital of the century XIII constructed close to the Pisuerga river with its medieval bridge of seven arcs (Fitero Bridge), that it separates the provinces of Burgos and Palencia.
After crossing the bridge, the pilgrim takes a track of earth to the right that in 300 meters this way will arrive at the first palentino town: Itero de la Vega. This population is a little separated from the original way, that ran directly from Fitero Bridge to Boadilla del Camino, today transformed into highway, that is the reason of the deflection.
Six kilometers separates Boadilla of Frómista, but several of those kilometers become in company of the Channel of Castille, a work of the high engineering initiated at the end of the Cantabrian century XVIII by initiative of Marques de la Ensenada and with the purpose of transporting merchandise between Castille and ports, besides to water the fields. The work did not conclude, but it had left 210 kilometers and several locks. The quadruple lock of Frómista recreates the view when the pilgrim has to cross it to take a highway that gives access to the village.
