Descending from the port of Ibañeta, the pilgrims that come from France, arrive at Roncesvalles or Valley from the Hawthorns, very emblematic place in the way of Saint James; departure point of the route of the stars and that has been witness of great events throughout its expanded history.

The immense majority of the pilgrims leave from Roncesvalles, after to have pass the night in the refuge.

In the early morning the pilgrim leaves the monastery by a flat footpath, that runs parallel to the highway, surrounded by all kind of vegetation . It is so pleasant that it is an authentic gift for the pilgrim.

Soon is reached Burguete, that is crossed by its main street and when the pilgrim arrives at the offices of a bank has to turn to the right to take a track of earth that smoothly leads until Espinal/Aurizberri.

7 kilometers approximately have already crossed . When coming out from Spinal a way to the left is taken that goes directly to the hill of Mezkiritz, where a memorial tablet indicates: Here one says a prayer to Our Señora of Roncesvalles.

The highway is crossed and it is descended by one narrow and pending footpath that, alternating with asphalt, takes to Biscarreta/Guerendiain.

After to cross this locality, crossroads make doubt the pilgrim, but the yellow arrow indicates clearly the one of the center, which will quickly take to Lintzoain, that is to two kilometers, and in the same way, to arrive at the population of Erro.

A strong ascent by forest will be necessary to reach the mythical hill of Erro, but it will be worth the trouble.

Before reaching the top, a great stone and other two smaller, exactly the right, marks, according to the legend, the passage of Roldán, his woman and their son. The highway is crossed for the last time and begins a reduction by a stony footpath to Zubiri, that it is located in the heart of the valley (four kilometers approximately), but before and in the top of the mountain, we will have occasion to contemplate the ruins of the old Sale of the Port, place that was for pilgrims.

There are five kilometers from Zubiri to Larrasoaña.
