The pilgrim leaves Rabanal by the highway and continuous the way during a section of about 8,5 kilometers, right until the iron cross. Before it will pass through the old real street of the abandoned town of Fuencebadón, although lately a tavern has settled down and an inn is being constructed.
In the Cruz del Hierro (iron cross), where the pilgrim deposits a stone in its base to request protection in the trip, the traveling is in one of the levels of greater altitude of the route (1504 meters). The place is one of most mythical and emblematic of the way, maybe, another "Cruz del Ferro" more primitive; it was installed on a Roman altar dedicated to the God Mercury (God of the ways) by the hermit Gaucelmo, that dedicated its life to give to protection and shelter to the pilgrims in this inhospitable earth.
With the Teleno to the left it is followed the way by a footpath very near the highway and to about two kilometers of the Cruz is another abandoned town: Manjarín, although not absolutely, since this village there is a refuge, the owner Tomás is one of the most singular hospitaleros of the way by their exclusive dedication to the pilgrims in spite of the hardness of the place, and really by the inestimable aid that renders to all the pilgrims that need it.
Shortly after is reached the highest altitude (1520 meters) to the foot of a base of telecommunications of the Ministry of Defence. From there, prolonged and hard a reduction of the Irago mountain, almost 17 kilometers, alternating with short ways and the own highway will lead until Molinaseca. Before the pilgrim will pass by the colorful towns of El Acebo and Riego de Ambros.
At the exit of Riego de Ambros, the way overcomes a precipice and after crossing the highway it goes into the mountain, to leave again to the same highway shortly before reaching Molinaseca, whose entrance becomes by the old bridge Romanesque on the Meruelo River.
