From the same Cathedral of Pamplona the pilgrim has the departure point if he had spent the night in the refuge. It takes the high street from the inner city and after bordering the fortress, it goes up towards the university zone by the street Fuente del Hierro.
It is very pleasant to cross the gardens of the University of Navarre, that end at the bridge of Azella and in whose place is located the legend of the battle in which Carlomagno defeated to the Moor king Aigolando.
At 4,7 kilometre of the exit, after crossing the railroad and the railcar A-15, the pilgrim arrives to Cizur Menor, locality than is located on a small hill and that it is crossed quickly by its main street.

From Zariquiegui, there is a slope of 50 minutes from the top, even when it seems that it is possible to be reached with the hand.
Before crowning the hill, to the left of the way a modern source remembers the old fountain of the legend, which tells how a pilgrim, exhausted and very thirsty until the extenuation was attempted by the devil, that offered him a source if in return the pilgrim renounced of his faith.
The pilgrim resists the temptation and his firmness brings to him as prize the appearance of the Apostle, who shows the source to him and gives him to drink the "Vieira" big shell with.
In the top of the hill, there was a hospital for pilgrims and a hermitage dedicated to the Virgin of the Pardon, the Association of Friends of the Way of Navarre has placed, recently, a peculiar monument to the pilgrim and from this place, the traveller will be able to enjoy one of the most spectacular views of the route: in the back Pamplona with the pirenaica mountain range of bottom and to the front the waved plain with all its towns.

Once in Óbanos, the pilgrim will have to decide between turning aside two kilometrers to the right to visit the hermitage of Santa Maria de Eunate, solitary place, very attractive and mysterious by the legend that surrounds it or to take the way that directly leads to Puente la Reina and whose distance is of only 2,3 kilometrers.
Once in Puente la Reina, a monument to the pilgrim indicates the place of meet between the ones that came from Roncesvalles and those that came from Somport. One tells that besides to be united in the way they were fused in a strong hug.
